About the event
New occasional series for poets and readers! In this webinar, Don Paterson will focus on two important poems. The class will involve some close reading of the poem, but he’ll also look at the historical, social and literary context of their composition to show just why each poem mattered so much in its own moment – and still matters now. Don will look at their form, technique, innovation, influence, the problems the poems tried to solve and the new literary possibilities they opened up. He’ll begin the series with two defining poems of twentieth-century poetry: T. S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken.
