We are a collective of poets with national and international reputations, all based near the east coast of Scotland. We believe deeply in the importance of our artform to the culture, and we seek to foster the ideals of excellence as practitioners, curiosity as readers, and generosity as teachers. We also believe in the equal importance of spiritual, literary, practical and technical approaches to the making of a poem.

Upcoming Events & Courses
- Sat 29 NovWebinarAs poets, do we fall into line with the metre, or do we stand up to it? What does it mean to ‘scan a line’ anyway? In this class, Don Paterson will look at the art of reading and understanding a poem through its pulse.
- Sat 06 DecWebinarOur poems often fail not through their lack of imagination – but because of their poor use of space. This class will show how an understanding of space, silence and its invisible, structuring rules can greatly increase the meaning, connection and free play of the things we place within the poem.
- Sat 13 DecWebinarWhat the hell is a symbol anyway? Everyone uses the word, but it’s rare two poets mean the same thing by it. In this class, we’ll look at when an image merely stands for itself, and when it acts as a totem for a far more subtle – and otherwise inexpressible – meanings and emotions.
